Greetings Potential Health Education Specialists:
I am delighted that you chose health education as a career choice. According to the most recent Bureau of Labor Statistics, the field of health education is expected to increase more than the combined average of all other occupations. This is a good news for us and future health educators.
The National Commission of Health Education Credentialing (NCHEC) is the body that provides credentialing for health educators. The examinations are held April and October of each year. To qualify for the examination, please contact NCHEC at www.nchec.org. Once you qualify and register for the examination, I urge you to purchase study materials from the NCHEC. I do not suggest using older editions of the study guide.
CHES Study Sessions
The Study Sessions were started over five years ago and have provided support to participants during April and October examinations. To register for the study session, please complete the form on the bottom of this page. A few things you need to keep in mind as you prepare for the examinations:
- Examination materials provide a framework to prepare for the examinations.
- Some of the questions in the examinations will not be coming from the study materials.
- The examination, like the GRE, will test you what you have learned in health education and health
promotion over the years.
- There are some questions that will challenge your knowledge because you may not have been
familiar with them.
- In our post CHES examination survey, session participants said that our study sessions were “very
helpful” in preparing for the examination and they would “recommend” to a colleague.
- You must study hard and use other resources, such as public health and health education
textbooks, in order to get better understanding on different responsibilities described in the study guide.
- Do not wait to study a month or so before the examination. Most likely it will not work.
- There will be take home quizzes and online support until the examination date.
